Quit Overspending (“QO,” “we,” “us”) is a registered assumed name (DBA) of The Better Company LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company. This policy explains what personal information we collect through quitoverspending.com (the “Site”), our course and community, and the Quit Overspending mobile application (the “App”) (together, the “Services”), how we use it, and the choices you have.
The short version: For the Site, course, and community, we collect what we need to run them and to market to people who asked to hear from us. For the App, we read your bank transactions through Plaid to calculate your weekly numbers; that financial data stays on your phone, the connection is read-only so we can never move your money, and we do not store your transactions on our servers. We do not sell your personal information. We never ask for, and you should never give us, your bank login credentials or full account numbers.
You give us:
Collected automatically:
We do not collect bank credentials, full bank account numbers, or transaction-level financial data through the Site. The Site and the course do not connect to your bank. The App does connect to your bank, through Plaid, and how the App handles that financial data is described in Section 2.
This section covers the Quit Overspending app. If you only use the Site, course, or community, it does not apply to you.
How the App connects to your bank. We use Plaid Inc. to connect to your bank. When you link an account, Plaid, not QO, handles the login. Your bank credentials are not sent to us and are not stored by us. The connection is read-only: the App can see transaction and balance information, but it cannot move money, make payments, or change anything at your bank. This is a technical limit, not just a policy, because we do not request or use any Plaid product that can move funds. Plaid handles your information under its own privacy policy, available at plaid.com/legal. When you connect an account, Plaid presents its own disclosures and asks for your permission.
What the App collects. For each account you connect, through Plaid:
We may request up to 24 months of history, because the App calculates averages from your past spending. We do not request your bank account or routing numbers, your Social Security number, your income or employment records, your investment holdings, or your loan and credit details.
To use the App you create an account, which requires an email address, or a sign-in through Apple, Google, or Microsoft. We may also collect limited technical information needed to operate the App and diagnose problems, such as app version, device type, operating system version, and error reports. The App does not contain advertising trackers, and none of our service providers receives your financial data.
Where your App data is stored. Your transaction history, its categories, your weekly numbers, and your setup progress are stored on your phone. We do not store your transaction or balance data on our servers. When the App needs data from Plaid, our server passes the request through and returns the response to your phone. On our servers we store the access credential for your bank connection, identifiers for your connection and account, and basic record timestamps; the access credential is encrypted and is not sent to your phone or to anyone else. Data on your phone is protected by your device’s built-in encryption, which requires a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. We recommend setting a device passcode; it is the primary protection for the data on your phone.
How we use your App data. We use it to calculate your Everyday and Recurring weekly numbers and your potential savings, to categorize your transactions and retain your corrections when you recategorize one, to guide you through setting up and funding your accounts, to provide customer support, to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the App, and to comply with law and enforce our Terms.
What we do not do with your App data. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your financial data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketers, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your financial data to train machine-learning or AI models. We do not move your money; QO tells you what to do at your own bank, and you do it. We do not send your data to any third party for that party’s own independent purposes.
Who we share App data with. We share only with service providers that help us operate the App, limited to what they need: Plaid (bank connectivity and transaction categorization), our hosting and infrastructure providers (operating our servers), and Apple and Google (app distribution). We may also disclose information where required by law, or where we believe it necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person.
Your choices for App data. You can disconnect your bank at any time; disconnecting ends our access, removes the stored access credential from our servers, and instructs Plaid to end the connection. You can request deletion of your account and the information we hold about you on our servers by emailing support@quitoverspending.com. Uninstalling the App removes the data stored on your phone; we cannot remove that data remotely and cannot access it. If a transaction is categorized incorrectly, you can change it in the App. You can withdraw consent to our collection and use of your bank data at any time by disconnecting your bank or deleting your account; the core features of the App depend on that connection and will stop working.
How long we keep App data. We keep the access credential and connection record while your connection is active, and remove it when you disconnect or delete your account. We keep your account record while your account exists. We do not retain transaction or balance data on our servers. Data on your phone remains until you delete the App. We keep operational logs for a limited period consistent with our internal retention practices. We may retain information longer where necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
App security. We protect your information with encryption in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher for all traffic between the App, our servers, and Plaid), encryption at rest of your bank access credential (AES-256), not storing what we do not need (a breach of our servers would not expose your transactions, because they are not there), read-only access (no one can move your money through QO), and access controls and multi-factor authentication on the systems that hold credentials. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law. To report a security concern, email support@quitoverspending.com.
We share personal information only with:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with or sold to third parties for marketing purposes.
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential site functions, remembering preferences, measuring traffic, and (if enabled) advertising measurement. Current tools: HighLevel/LeadConnector tracking, Google Analytics 4, Meta Pixel, and Microsoft Clarity. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking some cookies may affect Site function. Where a cookie banner is shown, your choices there also apply.
Some analytics or advertising cookies may constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under certain state laws. You can opt out via the cookie banner (“Privacy choices”). We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where required by law.
Note: the cookies and analytics tools in this section run on the Site. The App does not contain advertising trackers (see Section 2).
Email. If you opt in, we send marketing emails. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop transactional emails (receipts, account notices).
SMS. If you check the SMS consent box and provide your number, you agree to receive automated marketing and informational texts from Quit Overspending at that number. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time, or HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. See our Terms of Service for more.
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, obtain a copy, and opt out of targeted advertising. To exercise any of these rights, email support@quitoverspending.com with the subject “Privacy Request.” We will verify your identity and respond within the time required by your state’s law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.
You can always: unsubscribe from email (link in every message), stop texts (reply STOP), request account deletion, and manage cookies in your browser. For financial data collected through the App, see also the choices in Section 2.
This section covers the Site, course, and community; retention and security for the App are in Section 2.
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations (for example, tax records for purchases), resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, and we rely on the security practices of our major providers (Stripe, HighLevel). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
The Services are for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
The Services are offered and directed solely to residents of the United States and are hosted in the United States. We do not target, market to, or knowingly collect personal information from residents of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, or any other country. If you access the Site from outside the US, you do so on your own initiative, and any information you submit will be processed in the US under this policy. If we learn we have collected personal information from someone we are not permitted to serve, we will delete it; you may also request deletion at support@quitoverspending.com.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced by email or Site notice before they take effect. If a change would broaden how we use your financial data from the App, we will ask for your consent again rather than assuming it. The effective date above always reflects the current version.
